Enedina

Hello to everyone!
My name is Enedina Velez. I am a 25 year old Mexican-American girl. I have been living in Rome, Georgia since I was one year old. Soon I will turn 26 on October 2nd of this year.
When I was two years old, I was diagnosed with diabetes type one. Later doctors found out that this is due to a syndrome call Wolfram. Wolfram causes diabetes, vision loss, hearing loss, and other things at a certain age. Nowadays, I can tell when its day time or night time and when lights are on or off. I can hear with my hearing aids but the only thing I cannot hear with them are whispers. I know a little of ASL, but not enough to have a long conversation. I would like to learn more because I never know if I will need it one day. I like for people to ask me questions and talk to me, so I will wait for you to talk to me.
I was a mentor in 2012 for the Transition Institute in Mississippi and met lots of people.

I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in May 2014 as a Special Educator. I do not work as a teacher because I figured out in my student teaching that working as a teacher is way too stressful for me and gives me a lot of terrible headaches. I taught
braille1 on 1 to an adult last year and sometimes I tutor kids in math. Once in a while I volunteer at a Disability Link Office and sometimes I help my sister at her job at the restaurant.
I have the diploma to transcribe braille and currently, I am upgrading my certification to UEB with the new symbols. I would like to transcribe print in to braille if possible as soon as I get the letter.

Some of my hobbies that make me happy are listening to music, dancing, and making desserts. I love any kind of music in Spanish or English. I like to keep busy and not think about my health problems we should all enjoy life right now and show others we can do things no matter how long they take. I always like to repeat to myself, “Never give up, Enedina. You can do anything!” So if I can do it, you can do it, too!
